SatRadar is a satellite tracking app and website built by David Hodge. We do not run our own ad network, analytics service, or tracking pixels. The summary, in plain English: the app shows satellites on a globe; it doesn’t need to know much about you to do that, so it doesn’t ask.
From the apps (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, screensaver): nothing is sent to us. The apps fetch publicly available Two-Line Element (TLE) orbital data from CelesTrak and render it on your device. We do not run our own servers that receive your data.
From this website (satradar.com): our hosting provider may log standard request metadata (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp) for abuse prevention and aggregate traffic statistics. We do not associate these logs with any identity. If you request TestFlight beta access via a form on this site, we collect the email address (and any optional comment) you submit and store it in Supabase only to send TestFlight invitations.
SatRadar can use your device location only when you are actively using the app (“When In Use” permission), and only after you grant it. Location is used to show your position on the 3D globe and to compute look angles to satellites overhead. Location is never transmitted off your device. Accuracy is set to roughly 3 km — sufficient for satellite-tracking math, intentionally not precise. If you decline the permission the app continues to work; it just won’t draw your position marker.
SatRadar offers a one-time Starlink unlock (which also includes OneWeb, Iridium, and the commercial LEO Earth-observation fleets) via Apple’s App Store. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple’s StoreKit framework. We receive a signed receipt indicating whether you have purchased the product; we never see your payment card, Apple ID password, billing address, or other personal payment details. Restore Purchases is provided in the app’s About screen and works on any device signed in to the same Apple ID. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles purchase data.
The apps cache the public satellite TLE catalog locally so you can use them without a network connection. No personal data is stored in this cache. Removing the app removes the cache.
If you have enabled “Share With App Developers” in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on iOS or macOS, Apple may share anonymized crash reports with us. These reports contain no personal data. You can disable this at any time in Settings.
SatRadar does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us via our feedback form and we will delete it.
TestFlight request emails are retained until beta access is granted, then deleted. If you’d like your email removed sooner, request it through our feedback form.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you (in practice this means a TestFlight request email, since that is the only personal data we collect) by submitting a request through our feedback form. We will respond within 30 days. Residents of the EU/UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA) have additional rights including the right to portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; we honour these rights worldwide rather than only where required.
We may update this policy occasionally. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date at the top.
